Project 57: Replacing Brake Discs

I just performed a disc replacement the other day on a friends car, and I wanted to mention that you may need to smack the back of the old brake disc very hard with a rubber mallet in order to get it off of the hub. I used the words "tap the brake disc loose" in the book - you may need to use quite a bit more force than that.

I can confirm that... Had to use quite a bit of muscle with my rubber mallet when changing/upgrading the rotors on both my old E30 and E36... Just worked my way around the disc as much as I could from the back and they eventually popped off.

I had to use a large 3 jaw puller... What a twang that made.......

Your replacing it anyway so use the BFH (large hammer) no need to be gentle. Its usually the rear with the drum e-brake that is the problem.
