Project 4: Fuel Filter Replacement

Is there anything holding up the fuel filter or does it dangle on the inlet and outlet hoses? Also, is it absolutely necessary to clamp both hoses for this procedure? Thanks in advance for your help.

On the E30's, you've got a stainless steel clamp around the fuel filter securing it to the chassis.

I recently replaced the fuel filter on my M3.

It is relatively straightforward as on the 96+ M3s, the fuel filter is located right underneath the drivers seat. It was protected by a metal shield that was easily removed by removing a couple of bolts. It was a bit difficult to remove the fuel lines but that was about it. I had an oil pan underneath to catch all of the fuel because I chose not to plug the lines, or run the car with the fuel pump fuse disconnected to depressurize the system. I'd say about half a gallon of fuel came out, but nothing major.

It took about 45 minutes total with me taking my sweet time, and working in the dark.

Hey thanks for the response, I am going to try to change the filter tomorrow. I dont believe I am going to plug the lines but I will try pulling the fuse to depressurize the system. I have half a tank full of gas, so I hope I dont f'up.
