E30 Camshaft Removal

Good Evening,

I was reading the 101 Performance BMW book and it gave this link for changing the Cam on a E30.

I just cannot seem to find your description on how to go about this.

I just bought a Schrick 288 for a steal and I was hoping to install it. Just wanted your take on removing the Cam from a E30.

It looks a hell of a lot easier than the removal on the E36...

1993 318is timing

Wayne,

Thanks for all the help so far. I am still trying to get the car running right. I took your last advice and retimed the car by pinning the flywheel and using the tension tool to take the slack out of the timing chain. I checked and rechecked the marks and the timing, It all looked as exact as possible. When I started it up, I can hear valves hitting pistons. I am pretty sure that is the sound, and thoughts if it could be something else? I am also wonering if it is at all possible to swap the camshafts when replacing them. Intake on the exhaust and exhaust on the intake. I had a shop remove and reinstall them when they reworked the head. If I am doing something wrong, I would like to know before I call the shop again.

Is there a way to tell the camshafts as they sit on the engine which is which. I am not sure if the top is intake or exhaust, but is there a way to tell what each particular camshaft is by some sort of marking? Please help!!!!!
