Timer on OBC

Anyone know the exact usuage of this thing? Like what use could it possibly have? Also I seem to be unable to reset the unit no matter what I do.

Javier at Pelican Parts 03-04-2003 02:03 PM

Its a count down for self-destruct....BOOOOM!!!!

Jared at Pelican Parts 03-04-2003 02:06 PM

the little unknown James Bond features of the car....

I want .50 caliber machine guns mounted behind the headlights as well as an oil sprayer at the rear.

Zoomy 03-04-2003 03:44 PM

Well,

I use mine for Time/Distance measuments.

i.e. Checking Speedo error.
Is this route quicker over another.......
Etc....

bertible 03-04-2003 08:19 PM

Seriously zoomy, can you actually set yours, or somehow get it to move? Like Jared, I've tried everything to reset it, or to get it to start counting, but it doesn't do a thing.

Mine works,
1)Press "timer" to go to timer
2)Press "set res" to start timer
3)Press "set res" a second time to stop the timer

Does anyone know how to change the clock from a 24 hour clock to a 12 hour clock? Also my outside temp button is in °C.
I understand how to read them in this manner, but a 12 hr clock & °F temp button wouild be preferable
thanks,SmileWavy

Jared at Pelican Parts 03-05-2003 09:23 AM

Nothing happens when I hit the set res button.

Bijan 03-05-2003 10:21 AM

While you push the little botton with a pen, you press AVE MPG button. That will switch it to Miles and Farenheit and 12 hour clock

Jared at Pelican Parts 03-05-2003 10:31 AM

yup, thats the way you reset it.

mc30707 03-05-2003 10:56 AM

Thanks guys, I now have a 12 hour clock and °F temp buttonSmileWavy

Ah the wonders of the Fahrenheit scale..

Does anyone know what the other miles per gallon feature is on the OBC? It has MPG, then another miles per gallon scale. Is this for what they call imperial gallons?

Zoomy 03-05-2003 01:43 PM

Here's another OBC trick...

Press the "1" and "1000" at the same time.

It will give you fuel remaining in liters.

You can not change it to read gal, sorry.

Jared at Pelican Parts 03-05-2003 02:14 PM

Canot change it to read gallons? That what mine currently reads. Am i missing something?

Zoomy 03-05-2003 09:10 PM

That's strange.

Others I's talked to say theirs reads liters.

Jared at Pelican Parts 03-06-2003 07:53 AM

Well, I just filled up my car this morning, and it read gallons. You can toggle between liters and gallons.

mc30707 03-06-2003 11:45 AM

Mine reads in liters. How do I toggle for gallons?

Jared at Pelican Parts 03-06-2003 11:46 AM

hit the button that shows MPG, then press the small button on the panel using a ink pen or other small sharp point, and it will toggle it.

Zoomy 03-06-2003 05:32 PM

Cool, Thanks, I'll try it. Better than using a fudge factor of 4 to figure gsl.

bertible 03-08-2003 09:51 AM

Just to clarify, the other measurement is liters per 100 kilometers. (not km per liter). Europeans use it, and us Canucks are supposed to use it. A lower measurement is better, indicating you are using less gas for the distance. However most Canadians think in mpg, but it imperial gallons which are about 5 US quarts.

My 87 uses around 10 liters per 100 km, which is about 28.5 miles per Imperial gallon, which is about 23 miles per US gallon. (very rough conversions)

So in the US, does the small fuel economy gauge below the speedo show in mpg? (up here it is in liter per 100 km)

Also, while playing around with the OBC this weekend, I found that if you push either the AVG MPG or AVG MPH buttons, and then hit SET RES it will give you ACTUAL miles per gallon and ACTUAL miles per hour on the fly as your driving.........FYI, just some usless trivia!
