Temp Sensor for OBC: Proper Hook-Up
I have to replace the temperature sensor that sends data back to the OBC from under the front spoiler, in a 1990 325ic. I have the part, but the wire leads that come off it don't seem to have any markings differentiating one lead from the other; nor do the leads coming from the computer. Does anyone know if this is an issue, or if it's irrelivant and can be hooked up either way?

Shouldnt be a problem. either wire should be fine, Although there should be a connector that plugs into the sensor.

...and that would be the small detail I omitted. You're absolutely right, the leads I'm referring to do actually come off the connector plug, not the sensor itself. I forgot because the sensor and plug actually come connected to each other as "one unit", and I haven't actually looked at the part since I put the car away for winter back in November; sorry for the memory lapse. But I gather from your response that it still wouldn't matter which lead was connected to which wire as long as they're connected. Thanks for your quick response Jared.

Thud, ther are two wires hanging from were the connecter should be. This switch hangs low it reads outside temp, common for them to rip off. Best thing to do is, (do you have local dealer) get new connecter with leads, cost about 5 bucks re-crimp and your done e-z p-z.

Javier, this is something i intend on doing a quick article on. My temp sensor is either faulty or somehow contacting the engine block, as my temp gauge always reads 168 degrees C.
