Short Shift Kit

I'm looking for a good BMW shop in So. Cal. that will install a uuc shift kit in my 98 M3. Any help here would be appreciated.
All the Euro shops in my area only want to handle stock components.
Thanks

Why not install it yourself? It's not all that difficult to do..

ABOUT HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO INSTALL , AND HOW MUCH TIME SPENT UNDER THE CAR?

Jared at Pelican Parts 04-18-2003 03:10 PM

Have you looked at the install instructions on the UUC site?

No, but I will.
Thanks,

You can do it!

Install the shift kit yourself... why not get the satisfaction that comes from being self suffucient and knowing the job is well done.

I installed my UUC shift kit. Just take your time. The hardest part is getting to the carrier busings... there is a clip that is hard to take off and you have to work mostly by feel. I struggled with it for a little while and then studied the replacement clip. Looking at the replacement clip helped me visualize what I needed to do.

Good luck.

What are the results? How does the car shift now?

JHerrmann 05-02-2003 09:22 AM

Shift throw much shorter. Action is still smooth. No problems finding any gears. I got the carrier bushings & cartridge bearing with it. Jared, I think you will be really happy with the kit (UUC).

I am not one of these types that is going to put a turbo or anyting like that on my car. I am not made of money either (thus I drive a '97 M3 not a 2003). That said, I cannot think of any improvement $ for my car that would be a better spend. I got mine at a discount during a group buy initiated on another forum. Came from GTM MOtorsprots in Trenton NJ. They were fine to deal with. Still a worthwhile value at full price.

Thanks for the forum! More people need to find out about it. Seems as though there are a lot of BMW enthusiasts who have not discovered the pleasures (and $ savings) of working on their own cars.

Take care,

Jim Herrmann

I plan on either installing either th UUC kit in my car or installing a Z3 shifter in there. I have heard that the Z3 shifter installs in the same location, but due to the bend in the shifter arm, it reduces dshifter throw. I may give this a try before i go to the UUC unit, and see what the results are. I can find a Z3 shifter cheaper than i can the UUC kit.
