Cold idle problem.
Hello Members,
I had an auto to manual transmission swap done on my 1984 BMW 325e (2.7 liter engine). Now the car can't idle when cold. The car keeps stalling out. After the car is warm it idles normal. What could be the problem? Thank you. Patrick |
That's a tricky one. It would seem something has been disturbed during the swap. I would start by checking to make sure all the sensors are clipped in to the electrical harnesses properly. Particularly the AFM (air fuel meter) on the intake and the oxygen sensor on the exhaust but also inspect coolant sensors and anything else the computer reads for fuel injection as well.
If that's all good you may have a good old fashioned vacuum leak somewhere. -Matt |
Thank you Matt for the information.

The mechanic found the cold idle issue. The shop replaced a cold idle sensor located (on the engine) near the transmissions bell housing.
