You won't believe this!
Well, I think I have my troubles sorted out, but I wanted to see what you guys think.
After troubleshooting my crappy idle and poor performance now for over a month, I decided to pull the cover on my timing belt. What I saw scared me. I turned the engine over until the 0|T mark on the balancer was lined up with the raised line on the lower belt cover exactly. This also put the beginning of the gap in the teeth on the sensor ring almost on that mark. I then pulled the belt cover, and the notch for timing was 180 degrees from the notch on the head. So, the three bolts for the rotor were pointed in the opposite direction than my pic in the Bentley says it should be, and the notch was on the lower left instead of uppper right. And timing is 180 degrees off. I looked at the crank again to make sure, and the O|T mark was right there. HRMM? Here are some pics for you. Anything I could have screwed up, at this point? Thanks.
