I bought an abandon 84 318I from a wrecker company. To make long story short I put some money into some body work and paint [more than I paid for the car] and I have done most of the mechanical work myself fwith Mr. Bentley.
My problem is that after I changed oil the first time and when filling with prescribed amount of oil 4.25 quarts, the oil came up to the first mark on the dipstick. I purhased a new dipstick from a dealer thinking the previous owner had put in the wrong one and to replace the old seal.
The oil come up to the bottom mark! Questions: 1. were any of the M10 engines built with an extra capacity oil sump? 2. Did I get the wrong dipstick from the Dealer?
