Cluth Squeak?
 

Hi there,
The clutch on my 98 328is squeaks when I let it up. It's not a ear-wrenching screech like fingernails on a chalkboard, and it's not that annoying, but it's there, and I'd rather it not be. Any ideas how to get rid of it? Can I just take some wd-40 and spray somewhere and it'll go away, or is that not a good idea. Kind of sounds like a creeky door. Thanks.

I know, I know, I've got the same crap on my '97 328is. I use to think I could just lube the pedal also, but when I got down on the floor board to listen, it sounded like it was coming from the engine compartment. Sure enough, when I got someone else to depress the clutch while I listened under the engine the squeek sounded as though it was coming from that area. Mine goes away in the warmer weather, so I don't have the problem right now, but when fall comes, it'll be right back. I guess I'll hang up now & listen for the answer.

I have heard that there is an aftermarket company (BMP Design?) that makes a bushing that will permanently correct this problem. It is the bushing itself that causes this squeak.

UUC has a delrin bushing for (I think) $20. I don't know if it's the same as the one mentioned above. I haven't tried it either.

The UUC delrin bushing is for the shift linkages, nothing to do with the clutch.

As for the clutch squeek, it is VERY common on the e36s, I have no idea why. Mine comes and goes. UUC does have the clutch arm bushings that supposedly get rid of the squeeks.

Just look through their bmw products and you'll see it. No clue if it works, but UUC makes good stuff.

I guess it doesn't bother you guys enough to get it fixed? It doesn't bother me that much, but I'd rather it not be there if it's an easy fix. I wonder if it's covered under my CPO warranty, i still have warranty until Feb 2004. I guess I'll find out later...

Stup, the UUC bushing is great & all (especially for only $20), but the install is a completely different story! Did you see all that crap?, remove lower dash, spring assembly, sensor switch, clutch master, & finally the arm itself, .................DAMN! I dunno dude, suddenly the squeakin' isn't bothering me as much. Maybe it's simpler than explained (without pics to go from), but that looks like a huge mother hassle for a little squeak.

Supertack - maybe it could be a weekend project or something? To me, its just part of the personality of my car, something that I live with. These days with my homemade clutch stop, I don't hear the squeek anymore. But then again, my system is always on in my car so I don't really hear anything except music.
