Engine Cooling Fan Run on after engine off
Bimmers,
I have a 96 328i with ~60K miles. This weekend, I shut the engine off after a 30 minute drive to find that the engine cooling fan continued to run (ie: engine off and the key out of the ignition). No indication anywhere that the engine was overheated or anything like that. I waited for about 10 minutes while the fan continued to run. I finally pulled the yellow relay for the fan from the fuse box and that stopped it. I 'm suspecting that the relay itself was stuck and that I need to replace that. Any other suggestions? Rich F. The aux. fan is controlled by a thermostatic switch in the radiator. Typically when the fan stays on after running, it's not a bad thing, unless it is continually on. This would most likely indicate that the switch has gone bad or as you suspected, a faulty relay. Can you gewt a part numebr off the relay?
