Shifing a bit notchy on a 92 318is?

I testdrove a 1992 318is today and noticed that the shifter was a bit notchy and I sometimes had to put a little effort into actually getting into 2nd or 3rd gear.

I don't remember my old '93 318i having that issue, it used to shift very smoothly.

I'm looking to buy this car and wonder if this is a big issue or just some minor adjustment. Anyone know?

Incidently, it's a 1992 318is, paint is good condition, sunroof does *not* work, it has had some minor/medium rear-end damage that was fixed at one point so you really can't tell. 152k miles on it. The A.C. seems kinda weak. Guy is willing to sell for $3500, but I feel its a bit high, about $500 high. Is it a decent price, or way over?

Hmm, I'd say that is a decent price - definitely not too high at all. I don't really know how much 318s go for, but if the engine runs smooth and the paint is decent, that is a good price.

For notchyness - you can go ahead and change out the transmission fluid. I changed mine out to Mobil1 Synthetic ATF and it shifts a bit smoother, much easier to put into gear. My old fluid wasnt even that gross looking either.

I agree with stupe, change you fluid.
