R5/fcx codes
I just got the " check light" on my car. and I saw the ( r5/fcx ) in my glove box, but I guess when the guy sold me the car, he did not give me the codes. Is there anybody out there that would have them for my car? 97 328is.
I looked on pelican, and they sell the r5, but dont have the codes on the web. maybe somebody might be able to email them to me? or let me know were to get them. Thanx guys SmileWavy |

"( r5/fcx )"?? What's this all about?

This machine will read the codes on your car. when The " check engion" light comes on, you can plug it in, and it will tell you why. eg: o2 sensor, loose rad cap, etc....
It will also reset the "oil service" light, so you dont have to goto the shop. you can see and read more about it in Pelican Parts. If you like to work on your car, ( oil changes, o2 sensors) you have got to get one. the thing is I have on , just no code book. laterSmileWavy |
tried to email you, but it did not go through
It is a big book (30 pages maybe). But only because it has 3 main sections which you will not
need all off. First 7 pages are only generic instructions on how to use. Next SEVERAL pages are the various charts for 87-95 BMW codes. Then, there are all the codes associated with 96 and on. The confusing thing is, the code charts from 87-95 are listed by year which is easy. From 96 on, you have to read the chart from the tool to see which one you need. Goes like this. Turn the car on but dont start. plug in the tool. If you car is 96 and up, should start in the Fc mode and say nothing else. Then press go. The first code it comes back with is the chart code. I have a 328ic 97 and it came back with 11. SO I use chart 11. Hit go again and it comes back with a fault code, f6 which you can look up in the chart. Other modes of the tools reset the fault codes. I can scan and send you but, it would be good if you can tell me what charts you need/want. By the way, I just ordered and got the tool yesterday to read one of my codes. ROb |

Hay, thanks guys, i will be letting you know what code it is this weekend, and I have a 97 328is if that helps you out for now on the codes. It would have been nice if the other owner left me the code book.
oh well, I guess I will have to bug you guys SmileWavy |

I just checked the codes in the car, and it went like this:
fc... then" f5," then " f6" then to end " --" . if you can let me know what these mean that would be great. thanxSmileWavy |
It should have come up with a Chart number first. Is it a 97? When you plug it in, should come up with another number. Then F5 and F6. Those codes are secondary air pump low flow. It is the large pump on the passenger side of the engine. It has a tube that goes to another valve on the exhaust manifold. Check the tube and pump for water, chances are you need a new secondary air pump valve. If you can drain all the water out of the pump and clean it, it might be ok. Otherwise, you will need a new pump too. I would start with checking for water in the air pump and hose.

thank you Rob. the Car is a 97 328 is. I will try the secondary air pump, and see if that works.
talk to you laterSmileWavy |
