To key or not to key
The 89 325i convertible I bought has had the ignition replaced, therefore the key will not fit the doors or trunk. I ordered a new key from the dealer so I could lock the car. Now I have a key for the doors and a key for the ignition, which bugs the heck out of me. I pulled the ignition switch out, in order to take it apart, and grind off the protruding cylinders so the correct key would work. The problem is, I can't get it apart to get to the tumblers to grind on it. There is a black cover going around where the key goes in and that seems to be the part which is holding everything together. My question is, has anyone ever taken this thing apart, and if so how? I guess I could take it to a locksmith, however where is the fun in that? Thanks
