defrost/ heater problem

now that it's in the 20's here in western washington it's time to use the heater. when the dail is on the defrost mode hot air will come out and defrost the windows. my problem is what when i turn the dial to other settings all i get is cold air from all the vents, except the defrost ones. any ideas?

Sounds like the flaps on the ducting system isn't working. I think these are vacuum actuated (not sure). You might have a broken control line. Do you have the dual-zone climate control or the standard climate control?

it's dual zone

A while back I had to take my ride into Boyd's Autowerks here in Portland to have a cracked expansion valve replaced in my A/C system. I too have the dual zone climate control. In starting to diagnose the problem, the tech told me 'the dual climate zone systems can be kind of problematic... it could be a relatively simple fix, or it could end up costing you as much as $3000.' I'm not too sure what all he meant, other than the system sounds quite a bit more complex than the simplistic heat/fan/AC system. I personally would rather have a qualified tech take a look than get in there myself. Hopefully someone else on here is more versed in this system and can help you better. Good luck and I hope it's a quick/easy/cheap fix!!
