short shift kit question
What is the best strategy to throw a short shift kit in a stock 325? can i manipulate the tranny/ drivetrain to slide this thing in or do i need to take everything down? Let me know your thoguhts. thx

what short shifter did you get? i just got the shift lever so I didnt have to take anything apart. I just lifted the car, removed the clip on the bottom where it connects to the selector rod and then it pops out.

Short Shifter Installation
Many of the short shifter kits out there require just what Wayne says - pop the clip off the end of the shifter, pop the nylon "swivel basket" with either the 'crossed screwdriver' routine or the cute little tool UUC provides, and there you are. However, if you have any miles on the beast at all, you want to go a step farther. You want to replace the "knuckle" that secures the front-to-back shifter lever to the shift rod coming out of the tranny itself. That "knuckle" has a bushing in it that wears, and a pad at the tip of the shifter shaft that flattens with time, both adding slop to the shift.
Getting to that baby requires removing the guibo, which requires removing the driveline, which is greatly simplified by dropping the exhaust. Sounds pretty exhausting <grin> to do just that part, but highly recommended. While you are there, throw in the shifter shaft seal - they will all leak after 100K or so, and the output shaft seal. And while you are there, consider replacing the rear tranny mounts. Upgrades to those mounts are available, and highly recommended if you track your car. Right - I think to install the UUC one, I droped the driveshaft, the guibo and the exhaust. You really can't install without doing all that, but the upside is that I replaced the guibo (it was all cracked). Really not that difficult...
