Winter Tire Recomendations

I live in nj and discovered friday night on my way home from work that my 87 325is is pretty much useless in the snow. When i got home i added some weight in the trunk and was wondering what people were using for snow tires. also do they use them on all four wheels. looking for something to get me me through the winter in the north east so no studs. Any recomendations. Was surprised at how well my 914 went in the snow but don't want to commute with it.

I have 185/65/14 Michelin Arctic Alpins on all four corners of my 325es. The car is much more manageable in the snow and ice with these. I wouldn't drive in the snow without them.

ok, I went cheap this year with all seasons by Kumho ( $34 ) tirerack.com but Arctic Alpin or Blizzak are excellent

Winter tires

Back before I moved to Ohio, I used winter tires in Canada. It is pretty important to use four tires that all have similar to grip to be able to maintain the best handling, which is your primary method of accident avoidance in the winter time. I have used Arctic Alpin and had really good luck, I have heard that the Blizzaks are only good for a year or two and then they are basically just all-seasons, they suffer from tread loss that arctic alpin doesn't.

I have the Dunlop Graspic snow tire & the are terrific!! This is my 3rd year w/ the same tires & plenty of tread left not to mention tenacious grip on slippery/snowy roads. I swear by them.

I had Blizzaks on my '90 iX and it made a great improvement (especially on ICE). The first generation of Blizzaks had the wear problems mentioned above but the they have been corrected since then.

Got the 4 tires and steel wheels package for $400 +/- from Tirerack. Not the same as $34 a peice but...how much is your E30 worth to you? I agree with putting all 4 snows on at once or keep it to all-seasons.

I second Jase's recommendation. I put Blizzaks on in February and the car handles spectacularly in the snow/slop.
