Teflon protection coating

We have just purchased a new 2004 M3. The broker has suggested that we buy a TST 500 Teflon coating from Total Systems Technology to protect the paint. Does anyone have experience with or knowledge of this product? Is it worth the money, or is a good detailing every 6 months just as good. If we buy the coating, will detailing remove it?

That topic came up at a detailing seminar I went to. Everybody there seemed to think that these dealer applied teflon coatings were nothing more than applying a polymer sealant (which you can buy and do yourself) with a very high mark-up - a nice profit margin item for dealers to sell after you've worked hard to get the best deal you can on the car.

I personally cant see ay benefit to adding a Teflon coating to paint to protect it. It seems to me that putting a hard solid coating over paint would be a bad idea.

Thanks, that was my thought. I think we will just stick with a consistent schedule for detailing.
