Popping noise in front end

I have a 96 BMW 328ic and it has popping noises in the front end. The car is in great shape with about 90,000 miles. There is a popping noise in the front end when driving on general roads without many bumps. Could this be something that is a typical problem? Has anyone had something like this on their car? Stabilizer? It isn't the wheel bearings and I don't believe it is the struts. Help!!!!

Sway bar end links would be one possibility. I've heard one way to check if it's them 'clunking' is to disconnect the end links and drive around the block - may not be detectable by visual inspection.

Thanks for the reply. I will probably try undoing them and seeing what happens.
