differences from standard model

What are the key motor and handling items and whatever else, that make an M (three or five) different from the standard model? TIA.

Unfortunatley this question is a bit vauge to answer in general terms.

It kinda varies from model tomodel. Is there a specific M you are looking at?

For the most part, the motors and suspensions are more heavy duty than the stock cars.

For example, the motor; is the same block used and bored, stroked, cammed etc. or is it typically an entirely different block. Are frame stiffeners used, heavier springs, shocks, and sway bars? Models from the late nineties on up are of interest. They go from being a very good car to giving Porsches a run for their money. There must be key changes.

OK, I'll ask again... what M are you talking about? M3, M5?

Thanks anyway. I found the information I was after.
