fuel pump
 
Hello: I have a 89 325i and cannot find the electric fuel pump, does anyone know that can help? I have looked under rear seat, under left side of car by the fuel filter, trunck, under batt, out in the yard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope it is not in truck. Chris

It is located in the fuel tank. What you need to do is disconnect the battery (safety first) then remove the lower rear seat, there are two screws that hold in place at the front, pull the cushiong out, and you will see an access plate below..

Remove the plate, and you will see the pump fixed in the tank. disconnect the electrical connections to the pump. Use two screwdrivers to turn the lock ring holding it is place and then pull the pump out.

Its a good idea to drain the tank if you can, you dont want to remove the pump and have fuel spill out from the top.. Also be sure to order new fuel pump sealing rings at the same time you change the pump. Also use caution around fuel at all times.
