Question Sport Seats

This weekend was the first warm weekend of the year here in Virginia, so I took the opporunity to take a ride in my new 325. Even in 60-degree weather, I realized the vinyl seats have got to go, so I'm on the lookout for a decent set of fabric sport/racing seats.

One caveat: I'm not that tall of a guy, and the steering wheel angled a little higher than I'd like, so I don't want seats that sit lower than the current stock seats, and preferrably I'd like them to be a bit higher.

Can someone point me toward someplace where I can buy seats at decent prices? Used is okay. And you virginia/DC folks, is there someplace local you like?
thanks!

You may want to look at some racing seats. They can give you a better seatbelt harness than normal seats can, and they can be adjusted for height better. Disadvantage is a lack of adjustment, and they fit really tight.

carolinus,
I just finished reading a thread where you discussed the advantages/disadvantages of racing seats and airbags. I actually am in the market for racing seats. There's just such a wide variety and I don't know where to start looking. Especially since I don't wan to pay $1000 for a pair of them!

Look for Momo Start seats. http://www.saferacer.com/momstarracse.html
Also pay attention to shipping issues. BUT, at $75-150 a harness, $75 a side for a bracket, and then $300 a seat, you start looking at $1000 a set really fast. Heck, that's $900 a set right there.

Another option is Corbeau. I would look on eBay as well.

I have the stock vinyl bucket seats. I'll send you a picture of them if that's not specific enough. Is it possible to use racing seats with the stock seat belts if I don't want to buy those just yet?

Yeah...It is. At least seats that are designed for track/street do.

Actually, you HAVE to use the 3-point OEM belt to be legal and DOT approved. Schroth makes a 4-point belt that is DOT approved and legal to run. AFAIK you cannot run 5 or 6-point track harnesses on the street. I have been told this in every state (5 over the last 10 years) I have lived in and I have researched the laws as well.

That is why you'll see many street / track car setups where the 3-point harness is retained so the cops won't add that ininfraction to the ticket ... assuming you were pulled over for something else

Yup...

DOT requires the use of an approved belt. AKA you can't slap a 5 pointer in there for day to day. Only a 4-point Schroth job is available as DOT approved, AFAIK.

BTW, this is stupid. A 5 point always beats a 3 or 4 point. And fixed belts always beat inertial lock. Sooo....we get a stupid law.

However, you can just wear your 3 pointer over the race harness.
