E46 M3 Question

What was the earliest year this vehicle was produced?

I can't seem to find any from 2000, yet if production on the E36 ended in '99 & started on the E46 started in '00, why wouldn't there have been an M3 model in the 2000 model year?

Thanks

There was no M3 in 2000. BMW began selling the E46 M3 in 2001 thru the present year. BMW typically waits a year or two after their baseline brethren hit the showrooms before they sell their special model cars. Reason being is they want all the "kinks" out of the model line and make any improvements along the way before it goes to market. Last thing they want is any backlash or critiscm of their higher performance and/or special model cars.
