Question help! blown fuse?

hey all- 87 325i- while i was driving today- the tachometer and OBC went out...radio works fine, but when i turn car back on it asks for radio code, which i guess means loss of power to the radio as well at some point...any ideas? are these related?

Did the car die on you as well? Sounds like you were able to drive on OK. Check your ground cable on the battery 1st. Then, I would make sure you have extra relays in the glove box (Main ECU, Fuel Pump) for cheap insurance.

You do have a Bentleys manual right?

yup- it continued to drive fine-

the weird thing was ive had NO problems out of the electrical system at all, so far- but i had just plugged something into the cigarette lighter for the first time just a few minutes before and then the tach and obc went dead- i dont know if thats related or not- could be a coincidence ....

i dont have a bentley manual yet- i just got a cd today with the manual on it, but im having trouble getting the cd to read its monday..

"booper" ?

You'll need to get a multimeter (get a digital one) as well to test Ohms, volts, etc... At the least, get a a test light so you can perform the electrical tests mentioned in Bentleys (once you get it open). Analog multimeters aren't that expensive but you should get a digital if you can swing it (more sensitive and more functions).

Plugging something into the 12V socket can cause problems. It is fused so ... check your fuse panel to make sure everything is "copastetic".
