325 engine cuts out, stalls

My 86 325 has begun having intermittent engine cutouts while running. Driving along, the engine will seem to shut off (but tach still works and no engine lights come on). If I coast to a stop the engine will be off. If I step on the gas the engine will come back to life with a jerk but then run normally. It may stall again a minute later or not for a day or so. It always starts back up if I give it a lot of throttle. No sign of black smoke or over richness. Fuel pump relays are fairly new. Any ideas?
