I want to upgrade my stock BMW wheels with aftermarket replica wheels but I don't know what my offset is. How do I tell? Also, are the replica wheels for sale on pelican part's website worth buying? I don't want to buy junk.

replicas are usually made with different material, making them different from the original by weight and quality. i dont know much about pelican replicas but they look ok for replicas.

Most replicas are of good quality... the one's here on Pelican are very nice. As far as replicas being made out of different materials... well, many wheels are made out of different materials... aluminum alloys, magnesium (hence the name 'mags') alloys, steel alloys, and a mix in between. This does directly affect the weight, stiffness, toughness, oxidation resistance, and other characteristics of the wheel. What you want depends on what you are going to do with the car. If you've gutted the car and are racing it, then you'll want an extreme wheel regarding weight and performance. If you've got a daily cruiser in a 325 or 328... well, you are talking about vehicle that is already over 3000 pounds, and a slight difference in wheel weight won't make a difference.
Nearly all aftermarket wheels are made to a specific standard for DOT... they are almost all of decent quality. If I were you, I'd just search the best balance between price and style. As far as offset, I believe the range is +38 to +42. I have +40 and they clear perfectly and fit the car. |
