Vanos Rattle w/M3 cams

I just had a set of 3.0 M3 cams installed in my 94 325 w/140K miles. The car now pulls strong and hard all the way to redline. However, I now have a pretty pronounced Vanos rattle at idle.

Why would I have the rattle with the M3 cams but not with the stock ones? I understand from your tech article on Vanos timing that the 325 did not have the thrust washer on the intake cam, which could contribute to the rattle. Can the thrust washer be retrofitted? What parts would I need, and what else should I replace while I'm in there, given the car's mileage?
