Which timing mark do i use ?

I am replacing the timing belt on my 1985 325e and i need to know which timing mark do i line up with the mark on the timing belt cover? There are two marks on my crankshaft pulley...one mark has a "O" on one side of it and a "T" on the other side, the other mark has a "Z" next to it. Thanks for any assistance.

O/T is top dead center, rotate the engine so that the timing mark is lined up with the mark in between the O and the T.

Also make sure that the cam gear is lined up with it's mark when you re-install the belt. Use a new tensioner, spring and pin as well as the belt.

Thank you very much. I try to get all the info out "ASAP"

Just be sure that you get the belt on correctly. It may be a bit difficult to slip the belt on with the tensioner in place.. The key is to install the belt taught between the top of the cam gear and the idler gear. this will reduce the amount of slack in the belt. Once you lossen the retaining bolt on the tensioner, it will tighten up the rest of the belt.
