new injectors install: must i remove manifold?

hi all,

i'm planning a fuel injector swap on my '89 E30.

doing my requisite reading (Bentley, Chilton, Haynes & Probst) as prep, i'm finding conflicting info as to whether or not i need to remove the manifold -- and hence drain coolant -- in order to get the injectors out/in.

any particular experiences/comments/advice as to procedures here?

thanks!

richard

Richard:

I replaced mine (with OEM) several years ago and did not have to remove the intake manifold. After disconnecting, the fuel rail (with injectors installed) will come out as one unit. Replace while off the car and install as one unit.

You dont have to remove the intake manifold, however, removing the valve cover gives you a little more room to work with. Just remove the 10mm bolts holding the fuel rail to the intake manifold, and pull the whole unit out.. Make sure that you havent left any of the injector seal in the intake manifold and remove the clips that securte the injectors to the rail. coat the new seals with a little oil before putting the injectors back on the rail...
