E36 convertible top replacement

My 1997 318i is going need a new convertible top and headliner in the very near future. I am mechanically inclined and own a well stocked tool box. I am considering replacing the top and headliner myself. Should I even attempt this or is this better left to the professionals? Are good, detailed, step-by-step instructions available? What sources for replacement tops would you recommend? Anything in particular I should look for in a replacement top?

Thanks for any tips you can provide.

Hi there. In writing my 101 book, I took a close look at my convertible top. These things are very complicated, and the mechanism needs adjustments and repair parts, and such. If it were me personally, I would take a look at how easy it is to remove the top from the frame, as the installation would be relatively similar to the removal. I think that it's relatively straightforward, but some of the tweaking and adjustments may be difficult...
