92' stuck in 1st gear

darn gearbox is stuck in 1st gear. I can use the clutch and drive my bucket around in 1st, but it will not move out of that gear. I've saw more than a few "stuck in gear" posts in the Porsche forums (ZF boxes)..

Anybody have any ideas??

Does the shifter move at all or is it locked up in the 1St position all of the time as well?

Basically, it's stuck in first gear. It does move left to right about 1"- 1 1/2", and a little front to back. It's jammed.

I was changing the wheels on my car when this happened. I left the shifter in second, brake on, and then jacked up the rear end. I wanted to rotate the hubs, so I tried to push the shifter forward into nuetral. It seemed to already be stuck in second gear, I forced it out of second (and presumably into first instead) with the e-brake on the whole time..

I'm guessing there was some torsional force in play while it was in second with the e-brake on. When I force it out of gear, it must have caught first somehow. I'm going to remove the tranny and poke around abit.

I already tried rocking the car trying to move the shifter to no avail..
