BMW dead... what you guys think???

The automatic transmission in my 1994 325is went out again. I had it rebuilt 3 years and 60k miles ago for $2000. It will probably cost another so much to fix it again. How much do you think a clean 325is couple is worth with a messed up trans if I sell it on the street... $500-$800?? What if I fix it and trade it in... perhaps I will then get $2000-$3500 on trade in? Or if I sell it on the street after I fix it and try to get around 3500-4000? just not sure if I should just cut my losses and get rid of it as-is or fix it and then sell it? Either way I am looking at getting another car... just wondering what the best way to get rid of it. Your ideas, options and prices input is welcomed!!

Oh man, don't punt it too soon. Look around at getting a used auto-tranny. For one, you'll get it alot cheaper, second you'll probably get a lot of life out of one that is in good condition with decent miles, and third it is a direct swap out... no worries about much down time and trying to rebuild anything. I know there are a lot of part finders out there, and there are people with the E36 auto-tranny around. Or hell, you can just go get one from Ebay for pennies on the dollar like these... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7950717561&category=33727 and http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7951359318&category=33727 get it in your ride, and then decide if you want to let it go. I picked up a manual tranny for my '94 for $65 and I've put 5,000 miles on it with no problems.
