rear subframe mounts

changing these out ..is this a straightforward job..any likeky problems to be faced??
can control arm brackets be replaced with steering arms on the car
Any suggestions/advice welcome

I have seen a 15 yr master bmw tech change the rear mounts a couple years back->>cussed all day & swore to never do them again or he would quit-->>i have not seen them replaced since

Using the correct tool it is not that bad.

I did mine in my driveway with the BMW tools.
I took the advice of some helpful BMW firends and torched the existing bushings before removal.

After you drop the subframe and remove the huge bolt you heat up center sleeve in the bushing and pull it out of the smouldering rubber with needle-nose vise grips..
Stick a screwdriver up into the remains of the bushing and work it away from the housing.

Now use the tool to pull the rubber busing out. It will come right out now.

Make sure you clean the houseing well before inserting the new bushing.
Use the tool to put your new bushing in.
I used a tiny amount of dishwashing soap in water to help get it in.

Not a pleasant job, but not impossible.

The really horrible part will be getting the subframe out. Almost everyone I've talked to that's done it says it's a monster pain. Much more difficult than that linked tech article leads you to believe.
