94 325is New Head Gasket, still smoking

I just had a BMW tech put a new head gasket on my 94 325is. He checked for any visible cracks, none found. Not a bit of warpage. The car had never overheated on me. I only drove the car maybe 20 miles or so after i knew the head gasket was blown. Anyways, after he was finished he did a compression test, and it had 180 PSI at all 6 cylinders. But it seemed like maybe some coolant was still getting pushed back throught the exhaust, so we did a block test on it twice . The fluid never turned yellow , and the car idles great. Runs great on the highway but its still smoking some after it gets warmed up and especially at idle . He thinks its just whats left in the exhaust burning off, and that the muffler/ cat is probably saturated with coolant, and its just steaming out slowly. If anyone has any clues/ideas let me know. I 'm very worried that the head or block might be cracked.

It's pretty hard to get around a visible inspection, a leak test, compression test, and new gaskets. You've got some 'stuff' down in your exhaust if you drove for about 20 miles or so with a blown head gasket... I'm sure it's gunked up down there. Just keep an eye on your economy, performance, power, oil, coolant level, and other system vitals and you should be fine. Or if you are really concerned, you can upgrade to a new exhaust, but I bet most of the gunk is in the cat, and the majority of aftermarket exhausts are cat-backs.
