M Logo Whats this worth?

Hey everyone,
A friend of mine that i work with just came to me today knowing that I'm into BMWs (to put it lightly). He has a 1995 M3 with a blown motor (as in fried, not supercharged).
Specs are:

1995 M3
Metallic Black ext.
Black interior
5spd trans
New clutch 1 mo ago done by Patrick Motorsports
New tires (Pirelli he thinks)
88,000 miles on the clock.

Just from this what do you guys think this is worth? Or is anyone interested? He is looking to sell it, and i just bought *THE* ring (someone talk me out of it!!) so i cant buy it.

any ideas?
Thanks

Well what does an engine rebuild run for this car? I would think that if you took market value for this car in good running condition and subtracted out the engine rebuild plus a little more then you have a decent idea of value. It sound slike an ideal candidate for someone wishing to make an M3 track car with a built up motor.

OR
find good used engine with documented miles and fix it that way, after deductiing cost of engine and installations. Motors are electric.

What a great car when they are running.

Call up a shop and ask them what their shop rate is to completely rebuild the motor (not just top end, the whole shebang). They'll have it in the computer. Subtract that plus an inconvenience premium (the buyer will have to transport it, deal with all of the headaches of dealing with a shop or rebuilding it themselves) from the wholesale blue book. That is a good place to start.

I'd tell him to check around for a used engine somewhere such as theeurodepot.com and fix it. Dont let that M3 go. Trust me when he fixes it, it'll be worth the 2-3k. Or go to a BMW dealership / shop and see if a tech will do some work on the side for him. Thats what i did with mine and i saved about 700 bucks at least.
