Saying goodbye to BMW

Hey guys-

The time has finally come. Well actually it came several weeks ago, in fact almost a month now. I've just been too busy lately to browse forums.

I've decided to sell my BMW (hence the huge parts list for sale in the for sale section) due to high maintenance costs. I've spent around $2000 within the past year of ownership and as a college student, thats $2000 too much. Granted I have driven the car a lot and it IS an old car, but I'm sick and tired of high parts/labor bill plus the numerous quirks these cars have.

The replacement?

Satin Silver 2001 Honda Accord Coupe EX 4cyl with 5spd. Its quite a boring car but much better suited for my needs. Awesome gas economy, comfortable interior, japanese reliability, big and roomy backseat and trunk. However there is absolutely no fun in driving the car.

I still have my bmw as I've been too busy to sell it and today I'm driving the bmw and wow, I really do miss the car. Even in stock form the car is amazingly fun to drive.

Hopefully one day when I have a steady income I'll buy a BMW again. Until then, I'll definitely miss this forum and my car. The honda forums are truly disgusting - the lack of car knowledge and abundance of ricers makes my heart ache.

I'll check back every now and then to these forums and provide whatever knowledge I can regarding basic modifications. I've been a member of this board for so long its hard not to stay away.

Wow stup, that really blows.

I hear ya on the maintainance though. Last month I broght my 328 in because my abs/tc went out. I totally trust the German tech I take it to, & he's never screwed me. He told me that it was just the abs wheel sensor, & $200 would fix it. Considering the part was $100, I felt it was a fair price. After I took it in, & he started to do the work, he found the sensor bolt was rusted to the housing, & would not budge without stripping. The alternative was to have it drilled out, which added another $200 to the labor cost. Whew, sometimes you can't buy a frickin' break.

Did you have M3 mirrors on your car? Are you sellin' them too?

ya' wow.

I understand 100%...Up till know (for me) it still is working out doing the majority of maintenance myself. Parts on line have been very comparable to (actually lower) than most Asian brands. So for now I'll keep racking up the 300 miles a week back and forth to work!

-I hope it works out for ya'...

Hey- where are you going to be posting items for sale?

You know, Stupe, if you sold one of those sets of wheels, that'll probably keep you funded a little longer. Are you going to let all the stereo equipment go with the car, or are you bringing that over into the new Honda?

That's just a damn shame... I've done it before though... invest a ton of time and money in a ride and get it set up the way you want... just to realize it's costing you too much and that conservative voice of sensibility kicks in. You've gotta get that degree, though. It's a tough and competitive world out there and hard to compete without it.

I think you should take Golden's advice one step further... hold out for the V-10 M6 coming out right around the corner... a sweet ride that not much will be able to touch other than an exotic.

Good one!

What's the scoop on the M6? How quick is that thing actually gonna be?

the new M6 is getting the v-10 from the M5, but the M6 is shorter, lower CG, and they are shedding its weight with stuff like a carbon fiber roof and other trick goodies. The end result should be able to run with the big boys, but still cruise cross-state in style and comfort. I haven't found any hard numbers, but I'm sure they are out there somewhere, since the car is already being launched.

you had me at hello.
I believe it will have something like 507hp and a redline making the viper v-10 seem like a mercedes diesel.

Unfortunately no m3 mirrors. They have some good knockoffs without the stupid LED light blinker on ebay. They are made by Ractive - i was about to get those (havent seen it installed however).

I've pretty much sold everything that's easy to ship. All that I have left, if anyone is interested, is:

eibach pro kit springs
tokico illumina 5 way externally adjustable shocks/struts
m3 rear 20mm sway
Racing Dynamics 27mm front sway
e36 sport 18mm rear sway
17x8 BBS RX that need repaint (bald tires)
m3 exhaust

The weird thing is, I still keep browsing the bmw forums. Its such an addiction. I try and look through honda forums, but the accord is such a bland car I really don't want to waste any money on it

As for real estate, I was scheduled to take the real estate license exam, but I've been lazy and haven't really studied. That will have to wait until the summer.

My wife does real estate in Chicago. She convinced me to get a license a few years ago, so I could help her out. I wouldn't be worried too much about studying for that puppy if I were you. I don't know about California, but I personally thought Illinois' was easy enough to give a monkey a pencil, & decide where you were gonna display it's license. The hard part is actually selling something after you get the license. It could be a good gig though. Where else can you make 60k for workin' 20 hours a week.
