car died in the middle of freeway!!

Hello, it was pouring like crazy in the bay area earlier today. I was on my way home on the freeway and suddenly my car (1989 325i) died. I was in the middle lane and almost got rear ended by a speeding truck. I proceeded to steer the car to the right shoulder, luckily my car was still rolling. I tired starting it but didn't so i waited 5 mins... then it started. Drove home like normal. ANyone know the cause of this? car jumps from 700 down to 100rpm ... can that be the problem? please help

Danny:

Have you jump started the car recently? Might be the ECU going. Mine acted similarly years ago when before I had to replace it.

Hey Jason, didn't jump start the car recently. Everything is working fine now no problems. I should probably get an extra ecu just in case. Thanks fir replying.
