95 325 intermittent starting

I have a 95 325 convertible. I have been having this problem where it doesnt start on the first try but starts just fine on the second although sometimes it starts rather rough and sometimes it starts right up. THis happens when its cold when its warm VERY intermittent! However I changed my spark plugs and the problem went away for about a week then slowly back to square one. I was thinking maybe its the fuel filter. Any suggestions?

I couldn't hurt to change the fuel filter. Do it either way.

Try this:
Turn it to ON to activate the fuel pump but don't start it. Wait for a second so that pressure can build then START. See if it starts first time every time you do this.

Do you have any gas smell near the car? Maybe the fuel system is depressurizing at shutdown.
