wheel studs -- RED or BLUE loctite?

hi all,

i'm abt to install wheel studs on my 89 325i E30.

question:
(or, given the variety of opinions elsewhere, i should probly 'poll' ...)

should i use RED or BLUE loctite on these?

of course, i don't want them spinning out on the highway :-}, but "RED is forever" (or until i break out the torch, anyway ....)

opinions/suggestions?

thx!

richard

Exclamation Lug Bolts on Wheels

You don't want to use any lock tight at all, however you are correct red you use if you don't want them to ever come off and blue you use for removal (its medium strength). All you want to do is torgue your bolts to 81 ft/lbs if you are running all stock configurations on a BMW. You don't want to over tighten or you'll stretch your threads and then your wheel could come off. After about 20 kilometers or about 10 miles (I know its not the same but its not a science just aprox... ie if you drive home from work or something is good) then you want to re- torgue your lug bolts and they shouldn't have loosened but they might alitle as your wheel settles... if they did then check them again in a bout a week or if you do hard driving on the track check them more often hope its not too late.... good luck!!
