Long Shot Does a E36 320 exhaust Directly Bolts up to a E36 318???
Just a long shot, the E36 320 exhaust has a single pipe coming out of the cat converter same as the e36 318 exhaust. the 320 muffler has a baffled system and ends with nice dual tips. Wondering if this would directly bolt onto the 318. thanks for comments and suggestions.

Hmm, as far as I know it should. The catback is routed based on the chassis and follows it's lines. The changes between the 323 and the 318 should be only engine wise (I mean, the trannies are interchangeable). I'd say yes, but the best way to be sure is to get images of both online, compare profiles and routing... if they match up, then that's a pretty safe bet they are interchangeable.

They look similar in connection to me, although I don't have two in front of me. The 325 muffler doesn't work with the 318 because it has dual pipes the length of the car. The 323 appears to only have a single pipe like the 318...

Does BMW change part numbers between car models, Or do they share? If they share, You could just see if the part numbers are the same at the dealer, Then go from there.

thanks for the replies so far.
I have a pictures of each muffler but they are posed in opposite directions, meaning one has the tip towards the front and the other has the flange end in the front. Seems, very similar. I think the only difference might be the size of the cat convertor which will either make the hangers off or the tips will be shy or over extended pass the bumper. The part numbers are different for both exhaust systems. Probably, because the 323 exhaust is single pipe going into the muffler as a dual and dual tips. |

Just curious - why don't you just get the proper muffler for the 318? They are not that expensive. Is this one on eBay? Might be an expensive gamble with shipping if it doesn't quite fit...
