Exclamation noise when braking

Hello all, I have a problem and I hope you guys can help. Whenever I brake, on my 1992 325i, there is a soft "clunk". It happens after about a second or so after I touch the the brakes. Just one "clunk" after each time I apply the brakes for a stop when driving. It sounds like it is from the back, passenger side. I checked the brake shoes and they are fine. Can someone give me another path to go? Loose mounts on the suspension maybe?

How about when you accelerate, do you hear another clunk? Loose mounts or suspension components will clunk both ways, on braking and accel.

How about multiple applications of the brake? Brake-coast-brake-coast, etc.?

I think I found the problem, and do I feel stupid. There was an can of window cleaner in the back behind the passenger seat. When I removed it and drove around the neighborhood and there was no noise. It really sounded like there was clunking in the rear wheel, I will drive it to work and see if the clunking returns. This is a case where I hope that I'm the idiot, because it will be a cheap fix....unlike the time I bought new rotors for the 928 because I thought the old ones were warped, only to find out the reason they wobbled was because it was missing a 5 cent machine screw that helps hold the rotors in place. I could write a book about all the things that I've done that could've been avoided by doing something called "thinking".
