engine noise ???
 

I have a 1993 bmw 320i (inline 6) which has fairly low mileage and spends some extended periods parked. We are meticulous with the oil changes and what not. In the last couple of years we have observed a noise that appears after startup and happens mostly in slightly cooler weather. It is very obnoxious and is quite loud, and sounds very much like a lifter type noise. It, to me, does not sound like a knock. After some time or driving, the noise tends to quiet down to the point where you do not here it anymore. I am wondering if is a hydraulic lifter which takes time to fill with oil/pressure or does it sound like some major issue. I have heard some porsches(eg/boxster) occassionally make this noise. Does this sound like a problem ?????

yes, I would say that's a correct diagnose, what oil are you using?

I am using Mobil 1 but wondering if I should start using Dino oil again
