Brake pedal fade

Hi All,
This is my first post to this forum so please forgive me if I mistakenly violate forum etiquette at any point. My question deals with my wifes 87 325 IC. She recently mentioned that after braking to a stop, she has noticed that the brake pedal travels further towards the floor. Again this is after she has come to a stop and has been sitting stopped with her foot on the brake pedal. Since we purchased the car new, this brake pedal action is not what she has been accustomed to. I checked the brake fluid and test droved the car a short distance and could not duplicate her problem. I haven't had much time to check anything else. Any advise would be greatly appreciated on the subject.
Thanks!!

It is because the master brake cylinder is going out. It is the part that sits right beneath the brake fluid reservoir. Replacing is easy, but involve bleeding brake fluid and the clutch slave cylinder after the replacement. Anyway, Don't let your wife drive the car until you fix this problem, unless she knows how to pump braking to stop the car (meaning continue to pump the brake to stop the car instead of just stepping on the brake and hoping the car would stop-it is the cause how accident can happen...).

By the way, nice looking Bimmer, it is so classic!

Tanntheman,
Thanks for the responce and the compliment about our Bmer. I suspected the problem might be the brake master cylinder. Did you consider rebuilding the brake master or is that not an option?

I don't know about the re-building option! I got a used one from a salvage yard for ~$70. I am a little regret that I should get a new one from Pelican. But I was have to get it done in a hurry. At Pelican. It costs only ~$97. I am sure it should be much better than the one I have.
