MPG Gauge

I have a 94 318i auto that runs perfect. The question i have is where should the needle on the MPG gauge be at idle in drive? Mine disapears all the way to the right and then takes a few seconds to come back to mid scale after leaving a stop. As soon as I come to a stop again it swings all the way to the right. Is this normal?

Yeah, it's normal... the MPG gauge is based on speed and engine vacuum... if you are not moving, it disapears... you can't get a miles-per-gallon if you aren't moving ;-p~

Thanks, I just wanted to make sure.

Not that you need a second opinion but yup thats how it works.

An interesting note, on the E46 US it swings past 50 mpg to infinity but on E46 in CAN it swings to zero.

That's because Canadian's are much more pragmatic, where here in the US, we're a bunch of dreamers ;-p~

I read it on the internet so it must be true.
