Outside Temp Indicator

I seem to have an inaccurate temp gauge. The other day as I was driving into work, It was reading 116 deg! Where is it located on the car? Near the ground or engine??? I was thinking it may be picking up some heat from the road? At night it seems to match the "bank thermometer signs" I see on the way home

your temp sensor is located in the left brake duct. Mine is only accurate to around 90deg. It is designed to measure road temps and not the air. This is done for winter driving more than anything. That is why your door chime goes off when the temp drops to 38deg.
