vibrating like crazy at speed.

I posting this for my friend.. his E30 is having problems..

it vibrates a ton at 60-80

control arms were replaced recently. new ball-joints (the old ones were VERY loose)

this car used to be mine and i hate to see it have problems..

-Nick

"So here's the only distinct thing I can tell you about my problem.

It does happen mostly during those speeds. What I noticed though is that even though I'm maintaining speed (lets say consistant 80mph), the vibrating will get more and less extreme. It's cycles through being almost stable and normal to being kind of shaky, to feeling like the cars going to fall apart, then back towards stable. They go through a whole cycle of that every 30 seconds or so...

Could it be that one wheel is imbalanced, and every now and then comes into balance with the others? How would I fix this? Could this be a wheel bearing or no?"

a tire out of balance would be my first guess. These cars are very sensitive to that. If it just all the suddened happened then I would bet money that's what it is.

I'm starting to have a similar problem, though not quite as extreme as you're having. I called my local garage to see if they had anything to say. The tech mentioned that before even considering the wheels/tires, he checks the U-joints (or in our case - the guibo). Usually a problem can be found there.

Does the vibration come from any particular corner of the car?
