Hi everyone, I hope you can help.
I have a UK 1991 E36 325i saloon/sedan (M50 engine) which occasionally has a severe misfire when cold. The last time it it was late September when the car had been standing for 2 weeks in while I was on holiday. I started it up and it ran absolutely terribly for about 30 seconds, during which time I'd say at least 2 cylinders weren't firing. After that it cleared and ran as normal again. What could cause this? It seems to be related to damp weather and periods of innactivity of more than a day. It always seems a little bit rough on cold start-up, but moreso when the car hasn't been used the day before. As the car is generally in regular use, the misfire is very rare at the moment, but each time it occurs, it seems to get worse. Coils perhaps? Many thanks. My 92 E36 M50 has had various misfire/bogging/hesitation issues... My mechanic thinks its coils (so I'm going to change all 6). Others on this thread: http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=407255
have had probs with their coolant temp sensor, o2 sensor, plugs, coils, crankshaft sensor, and so on... Hesistation and misfiring is a symptom of many problems. |

Just switching my plugs to the bosch supers (1 electrode) from bosch +2's made a big difference. Very little misfire left, but I'll change the coils anyhow.
