1986 325es Idle Problem
When the temperature is below about 55 degrees the engine idles at 1000 rpm. When the temperature is above this value it idles normally at 650 rpm. The idle is steady under both conditions. If I disconnect the idle control module the engine idle fluctuates erratically, which I interpret as the module is working. There are no other symptoms.
Does anyone have a clue as to what is causing this? |

not really a pro at it but i would have to say if it idles fine at those rpms due to the temp let it idle. if you ask me it probably has to due with the oil being thicker in the cold so the pistons dont move as smoothly.

It looks like the problem is with the idle air stabilizer valve. I adjusted it to achieve the correct idle. The Bentley Manual indicates you should use amp meter but I'll see if what I did solves the problem over the next several days.
