93 325is no spark? something got wet and shorted. please help.

93 325is. my car was running perfectly until I went through a car wash. as my car was on the conveyer coming out of the car wash it died and has not started since. this was yesterday. it would crank but not start and had a gas smell from the exhaust. sometimes when I'd turn the key on the gauges would just freak out. I'm not sure what the problem is. I've never had any electrical problems other than the obc display giving incorrect messages at times. nothing ever like this. right now I have it at a shop in the town that this happened. it's up on a rack drying out. I hope that's all it needs, I guess I'll find out monday when they check it. thanks for any help or advice. happy new year. -------- mike

I pulled the dme and it was a corroded mess. it's dead as dead can be so I'll be replacing it. it looks like it's gotten wet several times before and this was just more than it could take. thanks for all the help and advice.

There are also tips on how to keep it from happening again. Glad I was able to help.
