Anybody ever have a bouncing idle or car stall? Fix inside
Well ive been looking for the problem as to why my 95 318is stalls sometimes when rolling to a stop and why the idle bounces up and down with the a/c on.
Ive tested the camshaft sensor, the crankshaft sensor, tps sensor. So i noticed that it mostly happens when my headlights are on (95% of the time) so today i decided to test my alternator. I have a battery charger that tests the % output of the alternator. So i hook it up my battery percent is at 68% so then i test the output of the alternator and its at 62% with lights off and bounces from 62% to 50% with the lights on. So then i thought maybe i did something wrong, so i hooked it up to my jetta and it said 100% for the alternator and it was putting out 14 volts. So obviously my car needs a new alternator right? Kind of makes sense because if i were to let out the clutch without pressing the gas much (like how your suppose to drive) the car would want to stall like it was losing power. Should also explain why my car would stall sometimes with the lights on when coming to a stop, becasue i would press the clutch in and let the rpms drop and the car gets less charging when idling lower. So maybe this is related to the bouncing idle i have as well. What do you guys think? |
I recall a discussion of a voltage regulator on the alternator that sometimes goes bad. I can remember if it is replaceable or what the symptom was.
Ok, I decided to look it up for my own piece of mind: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=228118&highlight=regula tor |
